What is Chandrayaan ?
Chandrayaan means “moon craft” in Hindi.
As we know Chandrayaan is a series of Indian Lunar Space Probes. Chandrayaan-1 is the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) first lunar probe. In this research it discovered water on the moon. It was able to map the Moon in infrared, visible and X-ray light from lunar orbit. It used reflected radiation for various elements, minerals and ice. Chandrayaan-1 was operational in 2008-09. But after about 10 years i.e. in 2019 Chandrayaan-2 was launched. But it created history as ISRO’s first lunar lander. After 4 years i.e. on March 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 was launched.
We have to see what kind of history it creates.
Why ISRO will launch Chandrayaan-3 mission ?
ISRO is for :
- Geography of the Moon,
- To explore the environment,
- To attempt a soft landing
Chandrayaan-3 will launch the mission for the above.
India will be the first country in the world to set foot on the surface of the Moon to launch the Chandrayaan-3 mission ?
It is known that Chandrayaan-3 will try to register the name of our country as the fourth country in the world.
Which countries have landed on the surface of the moon so far ?
By this time (2023 July), only America, Russia and China have achieved this feat in space exploration. After this, our India achieved greatness.
As we know till now, the Chandrayaan-3 mission will be launched to the Moon by Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM-3) from Launch Pad 2 at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
When will Chandrayaan-3 start its lunar journey?
The spacecraft will launch on July 14 at 2:35 PM.
How far is it from the earth ?
It will be about 3,84,000 km from Earth.
How to watch Chandrayaan-3 launch ?
- India Today Science provides detailed coverage of Chandrayaan-3 mission launch which you can watch from there.
- ISRO is also telecasting the mission live. You can see it from there

Chandrayaan-3 mission – near the landing site
- Lunar regolith,
- Lunar earthquake,
- Lunar surface plasma atmosphere
- Thermophysical properties of elemental composition
It has scientific equipment to study the above.
In March 2023, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft will face the toughest part of its launch
- vibration,
- Acoustic environment
All the necessary tests have also been successfully completed to verify the durability of the above.
When will Chandrayaan-3 reach the moon ?
If the launch takes place on July 14, ISRO scientists expect it to reach the moon in the last week of August. The spacecraft may take 45-48 days. Then there are chances of reaching the moon by August 23rd or 24th.
When will ISRO start the landing process ?
After entering lunar orbit, the landing process begins. do you know It will separate from the mission propulsion module and then descend the Lander-Rover combination for a touchdown on the lunar surface.
