Who is this Zarina Hashmi ?
Zarina Hashmi was born :
Zarina Hashmi was born on 16 July 1937 in Aligarh, a small town in India. Back then, before the partition of India in 1947, she and her four siblings lived a happy life. But after 1947 millions of people were forced to evacuate due to this terrible event. As part of this, Zarina’s family also had to move to Karachi in the newly founded Pakistan.
Hashmi married a young diplomat at the age of 21. Started her travel itinerary with Bangkok, Paris and Japan. There she was exposed to printmaking and modern and abstract art trends.
But in 1977, Hashmi relocated to New York City. But there she was a strong supporter of black and female artists.
